It all started when…
Michael had the wonderful idea of composing new pieces specifically written for weird and wonderful spaces around the country. Given free reign to choose from any National Trust properties around the UK (!) his selection varied from the grand ruins of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire to the claustrophobic, damp tunnels of Fan Bay shelter in dover.
Michael wrote two pieces for Shards, which I conducted, and a song for himself, Peter Gregson and me. The resulting recordings are stunning.
